                                  Welcome!

2007-2008 Girl Scouts of Hawai`i Corporate Members

The Girl Scouts of Hawai`i (Council) thanks you for your continued participation in Girl Scouting in Hawai`i.  We look forward to this upcoming year as the Council continues its efforts to fulfill the Girl Scout Mission of “building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”

One way in which you can partner with the Council in achieving the Girl Scout Mission is through your participation in the corporate governance of the Council.  The democratic process plays an imporant role in Girl Scouting.  As the national Girl Scout organization, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), aptly states in its Constitution, “We declare that the democratic way of life and the democratic process shall guide all our activities.”    The Council is a chartered member of GSUSA and, unlike any other youth serving organization in Hawai`i, is a member-based, non-profit corporation, which means that the corporate members, acting through their selected representatives (Council Delegates), are given the responsibility of making decisions that impact certain corporate matters and participating in the corporate governance of the Council.

You are a corporate member of the Girl Scouts of Hawai`i if you are a registered member of the Girl Scouts through the Council for the current membership year and are (1) a female age fourteen (14) and above or (2) a male age eighteen (18) and above, or a Lifetime Member of GSUSA.

Corporate members of the Council have the privilege of participating in the governance of the Council in three central ways:

  • By participating in the selection of Council Delegate representative(s) from their respective geographic areas (Service Units);
  • By serving as a Council Delegate from their respective Service Units and attending the Council’s Annual Meeting; and/or
  • By participating in various avenues provided by the Council to seek input on corporate matters from its corporate members.

If you are interested in participating in the corporate governance of the Council, please click on the Corporate Governance Interest Form.

Please note that this form is in Adobe Reader 8, pdf format. If you do not have Adobe Reader 8 you can obtain a free version at www.adobe.com.

This year, the Council’s 2008 Annual Meeting will be held on O`ahu,

Saturday, March 15, 2008.
